How Can I Get Customers' Contact Info?

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
Hi! i work in a retail company and i know how valuable the contact info of customers are. In our store, you have to register first before you can shop. but there are still those who don't want to give us their contact numbers. what gimmicks can we do to get their contact info aside from giving freebies? please suggest traditional or non-traditional ways to do this. thanks

    Hi Carlo,

I think the best advice i could say would be to sell the benefits of why you need the information, what will the customer gain from it?

    New lines
    Style information
Offers (which you said you are already doing)
    Promotion days

these are all benefits to the customer you want them to feel invovled in your store and the clothes you sell.
the more you involve them the better.

My guess would be, Carlo, that if the customers do not want to give their contact telephone numbers then they are more than likely also on "do not call" lists so using a gimmick/trick to get this info might not deliver the intended result anyway.

If customers are protecting themselves/their numbers, then I would respect that choice as I don't feel they will get a real warm and cozy feeling from you if you are able to obtain their numbers and contact them.

Can you build the same relationships through in-store promotions/communications for those people who will never be comfortable giving you their contact information?

They know why you want it and they aren't interested in what you'll use it for. Simple. What if you convince them to give it to you but they delete everything you send? Total waste of money and effort.

Try asking them for information on friends who might be interested. That might be more valuable.

As in Brad's post-- think "what's in it for them". They are asking "why should I"? I am thinking of all the cards I have in my wallet that give me bonuses for being a frequent shopper. BeBe, Cache, Sephora, Limited, Office Depot, Black White, Victoria Secret.. My birthday was last month and each one of them (except Depot) sent me a $10 Bday Coupon-- which I spent. I get email and mailed coupons and catalogues all the time. I get rebate coupons for accumulated points on purchases. And everytime I shop in those stores I am making sure they get my contact info -- vs them begging me for it. (And every woman beside me is doing the same thing!)
