Oil Painting Market

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I would like to market some "how to paint like . . ." DVD's.

They would include Monet, Van Gogh, etc.

My question is how to reach these folks. The product fulfills the dream of being an artist and creating your own masterpieces.

Not sure if I should go after boomers (affluent boomers) or another strategy(ies) that I should use.

Thanks,

Doug

    Good morning, Doug

I believe you can target artists through a variety of media. I myself am a hobby artist and have been for many years.

    Artist's magazines
Artist's supply whether bricks and mortar or online
Purchase a list for direct mail promotions
Artist organizations/clubs on the local and national level
    Artist tradeshows
    Hobby shops
    Community centers offering art education

The two largest markets as I understand it are boomers and the hispanic market.

Why don't you place them in stores like Hobby Lobby and Michaels. I like sales where you sell them once and get multiple sales.

This is also a natural for those "as seen on TV" type products. I can just see it.

Since your media is dvd, I would take short excerpts and put them on your youtube site. youtube.com/dougspaintinglessons? or?

I just searched youtube with the phrase "tutorial: oil painting", the results are your competition on youtube.

    good luck

Have you tried using some PPC (and later SEO) strategies to target the customers who are already looking for you?

I did a quick search on the Google keyword suggestion tool, here:

    https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

and came up with a listing of keywords. There are over 100,000 people searching for these keywords every month, btw. :)

Step into the search - people are looking for your product, you just have to make sure you catch them when they're looking.

    Seth
