I had a friend of mine who is a budding graphic designer (no formal work experience) work on a logo for a company I'm involved with. He created a nice logo for us, went through some revisions, some back and forth and had quick turnaround everytime.
We never discussed price but I did offer to pay him for his time. I was working under a "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" impression, thinking he would benefit from the experience and I would get a good deal. He's got about 15 hours into this project and I told him to decide if he wants to charge hourly or on a project basis and give me a price.
I just received an email saying he's set his hourly rate at $30 and will be charging $500 for the logo and another small project I had him do. I think this is ridicously overpriced for someone with limited experience and for a logo that is mostly text with one grapic and in b&w. Am I wrong in thinking this is wayyyyyyy too much money? What's the average charge for creating a logo and/or new designers??
Any input would be appreciated.
