Ideas To Motivate Staff

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
We are currently doing a overtime drive, because of work backload. I need some ideas to keep the staff motivated. I thought of buying some energy bars and including a tagline. Can you assist by giving ideas as to keep the staff motivated during this month and also gift ideas for after the drive. We have split the team in 4.

The only issue with giving money is that it starts to become expected as part of the wage package. So, even if someone is not performing they still expect the money. Perhaps you could use gift certificates to reward excellence and make sure you recognize people in front of others.

Studies have shown that peer recognition is more valued than money in the long run. Of course , when the economy is bad, people can always use money. So maybe the certificates can be for things they may not do or get during bad times. That way they are more valued.

    Airline tickets.
    Weekend hotel getaways.
    Massages (chair-massage in office also).
    A letter/flowers/take-out food to the employee's family.

I think Jay Hamilton Roth is on the right track.
One of the nicest things my husband's company did when he was working O/T on a big project was send home a letter saying we know we've taken your family member away from you, but once the project is completed, please enjoy a night out... they included 4 movie tix, pre-paid concessions, etc.
Also, they held a nice dinner for the group (w/guests) after the project wrapped up. Also providing lunch and donuts/bagels for the workers occasionally would be good. An acknowledgement (thank you) from upper management would be a nice touch, too.
