How To Visualize Consulting Services

Posted by Paul Kemper on 250 Points
Hi all,

In a few days I need to present a business plan about a marketing consulting company in front of some people that need to provide feedback on the plan. Instead of starting with the regular slides I want to visualize these consulting services in another way. But I am stuck for ideas.

To give you some background: the services focus on two areas, namely strategic marketing consulting and marketing project management. The formula behind all projects is a pay-for-performance model. The target market is the technology sector. And it is a one-man shop that has not really started yet.

Any ideas are welcome. Thank you.

Visualizing these kinds of services is a real challenge, as you've discovered. You might consider ...

    Meetings and presentations
Symbols of great ideas (e.g., light bulb, lightning strike, etc.)
Happy, excited customers -- even crowd scenes
Symbols of success -- trophies, blue ribbons, Olympic medals, etc.
Consultants in the workplace interacting with clients, exchanging ideas

Another thought: Use crude stick-figures and hand-drawn symbols so it looks like you sketched your thoughts rather than slick photos.

The most effective tool I've had in a presentation is a BEFORE and AFTER portfolio....

Think of how insightful it is when you open a magazine and see before and after shots of this helpless lady they found on the street with lipstick on her teeth-- on page later, she's posh and confident.

If you don't have any previous work to have them see for themselves-- perhaps pull from some well known major brands who got a marketing FACE LIFT and show them the difference it has made!

Think of Mac and their nerdy middle aged PC vs. Mac- the laid back lovable young guy who just trying to be who he is.

If you can't use your own work- share insightful reflections and information of the TYPE of consulting work you are committed to, and why certain processes or concepts inspire you.

Be careful to make sure you deem credit where it is do, but when all else fails-- BE THE EXPERT you wish to come across as-- know your stuff, and be passionate.

I'm young and a woman. I can't tell you how powerful it is to radiate confidence, and sincere passion when presenting a concept.

At the end of the day-- it's much easier to come up with a solution- if you can NAME the problem...

If you can't think of any... make up an ABC company cineri
and create 3 common problems-- and present 3 outstanding solutions...

This was a tuff question-- I've been in your position before, and my saving grace was inspiring them by showing my past challenges, and creative solutions.

    Good Luck!
