Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi Guys

I have been asked to put together a social networking strategy, to use facebook, twitter, bebo, and to launch our own blog.

I am kind of new to this so any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Brad

    Hi Brad,
Start by asking yourself as many questions as possible. Think of yourself as a client scrutinizing this proposal. Why is this necessary for your business?

Define clear goals for what you are trying to accomplish.

Choose the places that make sense strategically for you.

How will you maintain consistency across that network.

Who else will you use to keep up the communication.

Put together a calendar of milestones you'll be messaging around.

How will you deal with negativity?

    How will you measure success?

    What's your exit strategy?

I hope you find this helpful.

As you consider all of the above, I recommend you download Go-To-Market Strategies checklist for LinkedIn. It is very good.

Check it out the LinkedIn checklist at:

The advice that Roland has given you top level is excellent. Do research with your target audience before you do anything. You really need to ensure that social networking will benefit your business. If the research tells you that this strategy makes sense for your company, create a proper marketing and communications plan.
Once you get down to strategies and tactics, you have to define what your messaging and communications will look like for your target audience. Make sure that someone is going to take charge of managing and maintaining the social networking initiative. You need to determine your posting frequency and have a publication calendar that you stick to. I think a lot of companies decide social networking is cool and they need to get involved with it, but they don't create a proper plan and then they really fall down on implementation. Someone has to own it.

No matter what kind of marketing you do, you need to know precisely who the market is before you start.

And, as a bit of free advice, if your target market is 75 year old lumberjacks, forget social media - they don't have good internet service.

If I were in your shoes, I would learn as much as I could personally as quickly as possible, but I would also retain an expert with proven experience.

In addition to asking questions, there are some very good ways to get information from this site. For example, if you use Google to search the expert exchange for social marketing, you can find about a hundred discussions, and I'm sure many would be helpful to you.

    Try googling the following:

    + "social marketing" site:marketingprofs.com/ea

If you select the marketing, you can see a ranked list of experts on your right: many folks here not only provide free advice but also expert work for a fee.

You can also search the main site for white papers and etc.. If you join as a premium member, you can download quite of information on the marketing and begin to become an expert...

... but at first, as you get your feet wet, I would encourage you to retain an expert.
