How To Raise Funds For Plastic- & Cosmetic Surgery

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
What a weird question - Yes, I know, but I require assistance for a lady-friend of mine...It may be the weirdest question you have ever needed to answer...

She is from South Africa and is 23 years old. Ever since her teenage years, she has been wishing for a more beautiful body. I guess one can say she really received a "bad deal"...

To cut a long story short...She started her own website at www.beautypledge.com where she hopes to raise the funds for 3 "beauty procedures".

She sought my advice on how to market this website, so she can raise the necessary funds, but I have no clue...Can you help?

She told me that there are websites such as [inactive link removed] and www.giveboobs.com which managed to raise the funds they needed, but Im not sure how they did this...

She will do almost anything to raise awareness and get more publicity, but she hesitates about revealing her true identity and sending emails to Oprah or other talk shows...but what else remains...She obviously cannot use her Facebook account or Twitter to "raise awareness" as everyone will then know who she is...and spam is no option, as the giveboobs.com did...She also doesn't want to create a "false identity", as that may just confuse a lot of people...

I would appreciate any advice, as I stumped...I know this topic might be somewhat controversial, but could you please have a look into it and give her some practical advice on what to do (and even what not to do)?

Thanks a lot :-0

(Aside: Given her age, I'd recommend therapy first. Spending $ to change her outside appearance won't change her underlying worldview.)

What's the benefit to a donor? Helping to improve one person's body image? If the person's surgeries would make her a more productive member of society, then it's an act of charity with a societal reward.

A simple idea is for her to contact the former producers of Extreme Makeover (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extreme_Makeover) to see if similar shows are filming and if she can become a case they take on.

    Hi there guys,

Thanks for your comments - although it wasn't the outcome I suspected...

I can understand that it's difficult for you to totally grasp her situation, seeing that you are on the other side of the planet and have never talked to her in person...But, on the other hand, I guess you can also say that this is the reason why you can be so objective about the whole situation...

Anyway, all of her friends and family support her "cause", but none of them have got the available funds for her procedures. Believe me, some of her friends and family are extremely conservative - I, myself am very conservative and when she first told me about this, I was also very sceptical...but after talking to her and hearing her point of view, I could really understand...She then thought that her only option would be to go online and setup her own website (but without exploiting herself)...

I am unsure whether or not to close this "question" and award points, as I still don't really know what to do... :-( :-)

    Thanks again
