Long-term Strategy

I'll be quick as to respect everyone's time. The name of my company is "Enchanted Body & Soul"...the website which is coming very soon is ebodyandsoul.com. If you type that that into a browswer you'll actually see my logo, but the developers are working on the site. My question is simple:
What product(s) would you think a company with that name sells?

I'm thinking about the future of my company and what areas I should look into for expansion and growth. All responses are welcome, I'll tell you what I actually sell after. Thanks a lot

I think of relaxation. Fine spa products and aromatherapy products: organic soaps, lotions, massage oils, salt scrubs, bubble baths, etc.: all things to pamper the body. Then perhaps beautiful aromatherapy candles, perhaps incense.

Then you also need to figure out products to nourish the inside of the body like organic teas, which will have packaging that is not only beautiful to look at, but will have strong healing properties as well.

Think of what services and products fine spas offer world
wide and try to capture that essence and recreate your own version for your store.

But what made you choose this name? What does the name conjure up for you? What does enchanting mean to you?

I hope you have a good Web designer -- I had a terrible one my first go-round with my online shop -- because he or she really needs to be creative and capture your vision. But I'm not sure you're clear on what your vision is at this point.

Until you know exactly what you want, it may be best to put your plans on hold and save yourself thousands of dollars on not only a bad Web site, but products that end up not selling.

    Good luck!

Well, for starters, unless you are related, it tells me that you’ll get dumped on by the lawyers from bodyandsoul.com cosmetics for passing off – is that why my colleagues made the connection with aromatherapy and other new age stuff?

“E Enchanted” is also the shortened name for Eleanor Enchanted a set of wandering books with an alternative spiritual theme – there’s even one which addresses Body and Soul!

To me, the title says that this is what The New Scientist magazine calls “FruitLoopery” or batty ideas masquerading under a banner of pseudoscientific and philosophical tripe.

I hope that you have a firm idea of what you want to achieve, because whilst the web is a vital place for crystal wavers, peddlers of pendulum divination and magical discs which make healing ionised water (No, I’m not making this up) the market for such products is small and the customers are also somewhat penniless.

Good luck all the same – If your products fall into these categories, you should be English. Our family’s barking mad aristos have a glorious tradition of supporting hermits, seers and other strangely opinionated souls.

One great uncle even managed to perpetrate the biggest botanical fraud ever – one to rival Piltdown man, though great aunty Beatrice did make up for things by founding the London School of Economics. Actually, come to think about it, the latter institution promulgated the works of every ranting left-wing fruitcake this country could produce until it settled down to being one of the elite Russell group of Universities – a rival to Oxford and Harvard!

    Best wishes

I want to thank everyone for their responses/input/advice.

jbrudd, thank you very much. Your feedback was very informative and helpful. I do have a vision along with more passion than words can describe. I hired a web design company to work on my website for me. I am very diligent and picky so I'll make sure it comes out right. I also test everything from my products to marketing material with test groups. I sat one day and thought of different company names for my business. I wrote them down and surveyed them with friends, family, strangers. Everyone liked the name "Enchanted" and that was my initial name. I called my lawyers and they both agreed that I could not trademark the generic word Enchanted and instructed me to add something to it. I thought of Enchanted bath and body, but that was already trademarked. Then I tried Enchanted Body and Soul and it was available so I had my designers tweak the logo to add the words. My test groups loved the named and loved the logo even more. I started visioning my logo on everything from store fronts to t-shirts and I realized that this is what I was meant to create.

Nannette, I don't want my customers to be confused. The reason I posted this question was to see what you guys would come back with. Who better to ask than the people who work in the field of marketing. I am working on my tagline...I didn't want to rush to create one because I now understand it's importance. I'm considering hiring a company to create one. I've done everything myself thus far.

Penelope, I completely understand what you are saying...I'm gonna quote you if I ever write a book. "Don't give them what you want to sell, give them what they want to buy." I sold woman's clothes for 3 years and I know a tiny bit about selling "what they want to buy".

Steve A, not much I can say here...you are what we aspiring entrepreneurs call "A Dream Snatcher". I can't imagine the number of people you probably coached into abadoning their dreams. Your information is flawed, the scented candle industry alone is a 3 billion dollar industry. Combine that with the revenues from the Bath and Body and Spa industries and...you do the math. I am not a fraud, nor am I stupid. I registered my company's name and logo and if I am "infringing" I expect to hear so from the USPTO. I respect your feedback although it was more gloomy than inspiring. Thank you all.
