Pros And Cons Of Social Marketing

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hello, I always read your questions and post and I think they are really interesting.
Now I have a question on my own. How could we manage the negatives income in Social Network (if they appear)?
We try some time ago start marketing our B2B company in Social Network but it didn´t work. I was trying to prepare a new strategy but the manager and I are worry about negative approach not only for costumers (that are the less ones) but also from competitors.
I would really like to know your opinions about this.
Thanks on advance! :)

I don't really understand what you mean by "negative approach". Is your content going to make negative statements about others?

With most social media sites you are in control of viewer comments. You can delete any comments you do not like and block anybody from making further comments.

There are lots of social networks (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_social_networking_websites), so it's more than simply saying you're going to use a social network - it's also which one(s) will you frequent (and why)? And when negative feedback arises, answer the problem publicly and offer to personally respond to any issues. Remember that people that complain the loudest are also the loudest to appreciate having a problem fixed (and become an evangelist for your company).

Thanks a lot for your responses.

Sorry if you can´t understand me Steve. As all of you could notice I have English as a second language so I could have some problems explain myself. Thanks any way.

I agree 100% with you Jay, the thing is having the time to check regularly and response correctly to each feedback. That´s one of the things we have to examine before starting.

Yes, Randall, we have a marketing plan, we are working with it, and as social marketing is not including yet we are trying to see how will fit in our marketing strategies and goals and in which ways we can implement it, if we decide to do it.

Your question is really broad, so it's going to be hard for us to give you a concise and helpful answer. It's not that we don't want to help, or that we don't understand how to integrate social media into a marketing plan. It's that there are so many possible answers and we don't really have enough information to give you good direction.

In general, the way to use social media effectively as a marketing tool is to first begin by becoming part of an existing community, and offering suggestions, information and assistance without a disguised commercial agenda. If you help enough people, they'll notice and seek you out when they need what you do. That's the short answer.

It will require a significant investment of your time over a prolonged period of time -- months, not days or weeks -- and the return on your investment may not be obvious for awhile. But it will come if you have the patience to "make deposits in your trust account" without pushing or asking for a return too soon or too aggressively.

Find a level that's comfortable for you and get started. Maybe it's just responding to comments on others' blogs, or maybe it's starting your own blog. Then see what your customers are doing on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Just "listen" for awhile, until you see a good way to make a contribution.

Let us know how it goes.
