What Is Channel Marketing For A Saas Company

Hi,

I'm trying to get my arms around the day to day activities one would experience as a Dir of BD for a self-service email and direct mail solutions co. in the Bay Area. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Marta,

    In my experience in the software industry, Business Development is usually more of a sales role while "channel marketing" (the title of your question) is a marketing role.

    As a BD working with channel you're usually managing channel partners somewhat the same way you would manage a sales force. (except you have less control!)

    If the role is channel marketing, you're usually either creating marketing programs for partners, rolling them out to partners, or both. You may actually be generating leads for channel partners as well but most channel organizations are hoping that partners can do that themselves.

    If this is an actual role take a look at the job description. That should help you get a feel for which direction this role takes.
