in order to sell a food product at a farmers market or swap meet, does one need to have a Food Handlers Card from the health Dpt. ? And if so, where does one apply to get the card and where do we go to get it ? Do farmers markets and or swap meet allow you to sell your product on their grounds, or do they allow you to cook any food products there for you to sell your Product ?? I live in calif. Any ideas ??

I second what Randall said - these issues are often not set at a state level, but instead are much more local. Ask the people who run the farmer's market and also other farms that display there, and find out what is the requirement at that market.

    Generally.....

If you are serving samples, you'll need a permit from the health dept. If they are all jarred, you're ok.

Again, general. Check with the health department of the COUNTY you are in. They regulate this stuff and they are the ones who walk the show closing people down.

Technically what you're asking is not a marketing issue. It's more in the operations/sales/distribution area. Nonetheless, the advice you've received is right -- ask the people who run the farmers' market or the others who are selling there.
