Marketing Books For Beginners

Posted by Anonymous on 75 Points
I'm looking for a good book that will expose me to the fundamentals of marketing. Marketing sounds very interesting and exciting to me, but I've never taken a class on the subject. I'm hoping that the book I read will teach me the fundamentals, as well as help me decide whether or not a career in marketing is right for me.

Marketing 101 or Intro to Marketing Textbooks are good comprehensive resources that cover marketing well enough to get a grip on the field.

    Dear Bubba,

Hmm? Here are a few of my favorites:

Ogilvy on Advertising by David Ogilvy
The Wizard of Ads by Roy H. Williams
    Anything by Dan Kennedy
Your Marketing Sucks by Mark Stevens
    Anything by Joe Sugarman

    I hope these help.

If you're thinking of a career in marketing, talk to local people who do marketing to find out what excites them, what they hate, and what they wish they did differently. If you're likewise inspired by them, then find out how they learned what they did, where you should go to learn, and how you can intern ASAP (there's nothing like real-world learning).

Here are a bunch that focus on marketing fundamentals:

Here's one I use to teach marketing principles and management. It's an easy read and you can get a used copy for $39 (otherwise it's pricey).

Also, MarketingProfs' own Allen Weiss and Roy Young have a book too... "Marketing Champions"

    https://www.amazon.com/Marketing-Champions-Practical-Strategies-Marketings/...

And from my marketing super hero... Philip Kotler:

    https://www.amazon.com/Principles-Marketing-13th-Philip-Kotler/dp/013607941...

(You can get older editions of this book for a used price)

    Hope this helps!
