If you know nothing, and want to help your client, can you subcontract out the in-store promotions to someone you trust? If not, then you need to understand more about your client's promotional needs/goals. Are they trying to create more awareness about their store or specific products? Are they trying to spend spiff dollars from a manufacturer or is the promotion internally generated? What is their baseline sales today? What is the value of a sale to them? What is a realistic goal for the promotion? What types of promotions do they like (and why)?

If you've never done in-store promotions before, you probably don't want to take on that kind of assignment for an important client without making sure they understand this isn't your specialty. If anything goes wrong, they'll avoid you like the plague for everything in the future, and your reputation will suffer throughout the industry.

Best approach: Don't try to be what you aren't. Stick with what you know how to do. If you want to learn something new, find someone who knows it and learn from them before you try to pass yourself off as an expert.

    Dear maleratob,

There are people who say "fake it till you make it!" and for certain people, this works. But, if you've never done an in store promotion before follow the advice above and contract it out.

You'll find a list of possible contractors here: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=in+store+promotion+companie...

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck to you.
