Assoc. Marketing Mgr Or Marketing Project Mgr?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Associate Marketing Manager or Marketing Project Manager - which title is considered higher up?

I was originally an Associate Marketing Manager in the Marketing dept. but app'ed, interviewed and earned a new position in our Business Development Dept, Marketing Project Manager where I certainly work on higher end material.

I am under the impression that 'Marketing Project Manager' is infact greater, but am still a little unsure. Perhaps it depends on company? Does anyone know for sure as I'd like to know if my new title is in fact a definitive upgrade.

Thank you in advance!

I think it does depend on the company. here's a link that may help.

    Dear twitchmaster215,

Titles always depend on the company, on who manages whom, and on who does what, where, for whom, and for how long.

Your new role? Are you being paid more? Do you receive better perks, benefits, and concessions? If you do, might your title be moot?

The other thing to think about is, if the most compelling thing about your job is the title, might you want to ask yourself what you're doing with your time and whether your time, skills, and talents might be better spent elsewhere?

    Just a thought.

    Hi,

To answer your Question. Word 'Associate' is usually comes along with the position which are not top most. For Example: Most of the companies are having VP designation. Next in the hierachy would have designation Associate VP.

So, going by the same principle, associate marketing manager is not happening designation. But Marketing Project Manager is definately good one.

It depends. You can be Associate Marketing Manager of a prestigious large team or Marketing Project Manager of tiny obscure team. If the title matters to your resume, don't worry - you can explain the responsibilities you have. If the title matters to your ego, listen to Gary's advice. Remember - you had to apply for the new position. If it were a step down, you would've simply been placed there.

A agree with Swap...the word associate in a title automatically says to me this person is responsible for tactics not strategy. Dropping that from your title is a good move perception wise.
