    Dear aikpitanyibright,

    If you're a high-end, high-profile dry cleaner it's better to
just come out and say so.

I agree with Phil: more detail you offer in your question and
fewer technical explanations you use the better. This will help
forum contributors cut through the clutter, which is all the better
    to help you.

Also, please indicate where you're located, who specifically you're targeting (not, "everyone who needs our services"), and how you're better/different from your competition.

Depending on exactly what you do and where you're located (i.e., what continent/country), we can definitely help ... but the real help you need is probably not a quick sound bite from us. You need a serious, in-depth consulting project.

See, positioning and marketing strategy are based on a thorough understanding of your target audience, their needs, values, habits and practices, attitudes, etc. It's all about really understanding those folks -- your prospective customers -- far more than it is about understanding the technology or systems you use.

You are smart to seek professional help and expertise for the positioning and marketing strategy. This isn't something with which you should experiment as a relative marketing novice. The problem, of course, is that outside consulting expertise generally comes with fees that can seem high for a small business.

You might consider posting a project in the "Hire an Expert" section of this website. (See the column at the right.) Or check the profiles of the top experts and see if you can get a sense of who might be right for a project like this.

Clear cut directions and instruction need clear cut questions. Before writing this piece of a marketing plan, anyone would need to know if you are a national or regional organization, and at least approximately what's in the budget. While I appreciate the answer I always get from clients, "As little as possible!", I wouldn't want to write a $100,000 promotional plan if my client has $10,000 in his budget; conversely I wouldn't want to write a $10,000 plan if a client shows up with $100,000. Hope this is helpful. Jeffrey Dobkin [website address removed by staff]
