Virtual Gift - Strategy

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi All,

Talking about virtual gift again. Is there any other good method / strategy to do with virtual gifts?

Currently, what i am doing is like create more gifts for user to buy it based on different theme (like love, festival, etc).

Beside creating and selling the gifts, is there any good strategy to have? What i think of is like provide a boxes for users to choose and buy, but they wont know what is inside. Once they bought, the real gift will appear.

Is there any other way? Promotion might help as well. Like discount, etc..

Please advise.

Thanks

Luis

Virtual gift.. Something which is not real..

Like what we can see from Facebook or even from Friendster or Ning. This kind of social networking provide such gifting and they can earn from there. This is what i am looking ar and targeting.

    Dear Luis,

The importance of virtual gifts will always depend on the context
    in which they're being sent.

Facebook's "FarmVille" has 73 million active users and 8.6 million fans. Why, I have no idea. But it seems users can send each other pigs and chickens and tractors and God alone knows what else.

As to being able to sell virtual gifts? Well, again, context will play a major role, as will perception and the ability to use or show off the gift in question.

So again, promotional value links to the gift's context, use, and perceived value by its recipient. So what you offer will depend on where it's offered and to whom.

Ultimately, every gift you receive has a meaning in the context of giving. For example, what's the value of hearing someone say, "I love you"? Not everyone wants a tangible gift nor will everyone want a virtual gift. But everyone wants to feel that they matter to others. That's what you're selling.

Don't try to make the virtual gift "too clever". Have the message/purpose of the gift figure predominantly. "What it is" matters much less.
