Best Way To Find A Sports Sponsor

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
Hello, I am trying to find the best way I can find a sports sponsor. My boyfriend plays for a local Rugby team and they are in DIRE need of a sponsor. They play all over teh NY METRO area to include Long Island. Their Jersey's are older than most of the guys on the team, literally, and they have to share the sweaty nasty things. Rugby is not a well known sport in Long Island NY, so obtaining sponsors to help with expenses has been nearly impossible for them. They hold socials after each game to welcome the away team. The socials include, beer, food and lots of singing.. true Rugby traditions.. They want to advertise on their shirts for whomever sponsors the team as well as advertise at the socials. But.. we need sponsors.. I have been googling my fingers off.. even tried the local papers and newstations., noone seems interested in helping.. any ideas please.. Its a great oppertunity for some growing companies out there who are looking to get their name seen.

Appreciate your help.

If you are spending money at some pub, they should be glad to sponsor the shirts.

Michael- The pubs are sponsoring the socials after the games, which include the food and drinks. Trust me we tried.

Rugby jersey's are different than "normal" sports jersey's. They are very thick and have to be very durable. Otherwise they will be torn apart very easily. Rugby is a very physical sport. The jersey's last a long time. Which is why they cost so much. They have had their current jersey's for the last 8 or so years, just keep passing them around (what is left). It is time to retire those jersey's.

    Thank you for your response.

Who are sponsoring your competitors' teams? Contact local similar companies in your area. What you want to show your prospective sponsors that THEIR competitors are advertising, and perhaps they might want to ensure their message likewise visible...

    W.M.M.A,

No you did not go too far. We do not have a record of championships in our area. Rugby is not very big here in Long Island, but further East towards the city it gets much bigger. We are getting our name out there though. The city teams have no issues getting sponsors. We on the other hand are having major issues. I've applied for sponsorships on so many websites.

We are offering hyperlinks from our website to our sponsors, (we get 200,000 hits a year, growing) Coupons can be posted for our sponsors businesses, we will make banners as well as post sponsor ads on our tents for all games whether home or away. We don't want to just put a logo on our shirt, that's not enough. We do a lot of charity races and are willing to post banners and wear t shirts for our sponsors there as well. We have emailed local TV and Radio stations too.

We are going to make flyer's and go door to door as well as we are trying to find out our competitors sponsors so we can try their competitors, all that was suggested above. We have a proposal letter as well as a pp presentation all set up and ready to go. Just need face to face meetings or set ups with the potential sponsors. I've even gone as far as paying for lists. We have many other ideas and still have SOME time left, but not much. Everything still needs to be made. We don't care if we have 10 little sponsors or 1 big giant one, we just need help at this point.

Thank you for your advise. It is GREATLY appreciated.
