A New Know How Promotion

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
My friend, a geologist, a Doctor of Technical Sciences, few years ago developed a new pneumatic, waterless method of ore concentration. The method is very effective from both economical and ecological viewpoints. Due to well known particularities of Russian life (bureaucracy, corruption and so on) he cannot apply in industry his method. How to get in contact with firms and persons to which the method could be interesting?

Don't automatically assume that there won't be plenty of red tape outside of Russia!

That said, you can start by identifying the companies for which this invention is likely to have the greatest value, and researching those companies and how they learn about new technology.

At some point, your friend will almost certainly have to go to the offices of an interested target company, because you're not going to be able to do the whole deal via internet, email and telephone. If that's not an option, this will be all but impossible.

And Marcus has a good point about using Australia as your point of entry -- rather than having to visit multiple countries and continents.

Start by identifying the target companies and learning all you can about them.

Has he obtained world-wide patents for the process? If so, that'll help protect his idea and solidify its value to prospective mining companies.

I am sorry to say this, but you sound like an interesting update to the Nigerian scam that is being sent around the world via email.

I would suggest starting with a trusted agent or legal firm in each of the regions that you are hoping to enter. This will give you credibility and help you avoid being taken advantage of.

    Best of Luck, JohnnyB.

Although I respect the positive comments made by colleagues, I have to say that the biggest barrier may well be the language in which you explain your proposition – as JohnnyB says, or might have said, “Your proposition reads like A Nigerian Scam Email” Dear Esteemed Dr Alker: Out money is tied up in state banks controlled by---- and so on.

If this is a genuine process, then it can be presented to the institute of petroleum engineers, through their journal. We all know that in the oil industry that Hype is a matter of daily currency, but if he hits a peer reviewed journal then his patent will be secured (If he has taken one out) and he can spend the next 3 years explaining to learned sceptics that his proposition might work.

Sorry, but there is no equivalent to eBay for good industrial ideas!!
