NEW is about learning what the NEW problems people face and solving them efficiently. Ideally, following the people on the bleeding edge of a trend/technology who complain/stumble, and rush to solve their problems. Since these leaders influence many people, it'll create a big edge in your niche.

Once again I question your premise that "Innovation is a must or any business will perish ..."

There are many businesses that have been around for quite a while that are hardly innovative. That's not to say that innovation is bad, but that your blanket statement that without it "any business will perish" suggests you have a rather limited exposure to real-world business situations.

My barber and my favorite dry cleaner, for example, haven't done anything innovative for years, yet they've both been around for 30+ years. Same with several local restaurants, marinas, locksmiths, fuel oil service companies, etc.

Can you let us know what you're trying to learn and how you plan to use our responses? What problem are you trying to solve? Or is this simply a ruse to get us to check out your book?

    Dear InnovationCoach,

As you've just written a book about this (and are quietly attempting
to promote here) why ask "What Imperatives must be implemented
and maintained to create and sustain "NEW" in Business."?

Why not share some of your knowledge, tell people what's working, what's not, why these things matter, and how to put them into practice?

The key to business success isn't the newness of innovation and never has been. The key is relevance and significance to the customer of the solutions to their problems. Old technology applied to different situations can create a significant result while having nothing "new" about it.

Two similar responses, the suggested imperatives are out there and I refer to them at www.robertsrulesofinnovation.com , was just curious if people had any additions...
