How To Market A Slow Moving Hardware Tool Part

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I have planned to import cutting/grinding wheels which is used in small cutting equipments. currently a leading company dominates the market; because of the Goodwill of the product. Besides there are many small time vendors of this product but they are not professionals in their field. My product too of a high quality that of the market dominant brand. Most of the hardware shops stock this item in Small quantity. I want to sell this products on cash since I have a limited fund.

How could I make the best marketing strategy giving these scenarios.

If you want to get into nationally recognized hardware stores such as "Ace Hardware", "Coast to Coast" and the like... Call their headquarters and ask for the purchasing agent that deals with your item.

Most sales to independent hardware stores are made by manufacturers reps. There is a national directory of these listing their specialties. Contact the ones that carry complementary lines from others.

You are going to have a tough time with the "cash" criteria. The norm for hardware is invoice. You might try a B2B credit card and offer a substantial discount for their use.

    Good luck...

I think I understand. You have access to a product in greater supply than prospects can find in a retail location. You believe that, if you can reach the prospect, they'll by this from you rather than buying the national brand or buying YOUR product from a retailer that may or may not carry enough supply. Am I close?

Cash. Hmmm...you'll need to see people in person. Small companies, not larger ones. By the way, a merchant agreement with visa/mc only 50 buck per month and might be worth the investment. Many businesses fail for lack of funding. If you can't scare up $50/month (hey...I've been there!) then you might want to hang on to what you've got for a while longer.

    Bottomline marketing: Door to door

Vannamenc's reply is agreeable for my 1st part of the question; approaching the end user, the 2nd is how could I encourage my dealers to buy on cash.
