Cybersquatting

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I have a question regarding cybersquatters and wasn't sure where to place this.

I did all my home work on my business/(Service Based) companies name. to Ensure it was available and didn't conflict with any other company and am getting ready to do a service mark search with legal help...

I noticed though when i checked the domain whois.. it was definitely being squatted on and had been for a while waiting for someone they can sell it back to.. what are my courses of action?

Thanks to anyone who has any ideas.

Krista

You can also buy the name from the owner (if it's simply parked and not an active website).

    Krista,
It's not free to "squat" so this person/company also has money invested. It is their business.

Wish that wasn't the case. You can make an offer or grab the .net and see how it goes.

Unless your company name is famous, this isn't really "cybersquatting." Your options are exactly as laid out in the previous posts.

You need to figure out what it's worth to (a) keep your name, (b) have a domain name that is precisely the same as your company name, and (c) get moving and launch your business and stop worrying about stuff like this.

    It is what it is.

    Jay-

There isn't a site , i looked it up on who is to see if i could possibly make them an offer and they have just been sitting there with an undeveloped domain for 7 years..

I was going to do what you had suggested and have my developer make an offer...kind of hard to make an offer when its behind a curtain

So suggestion.. and yes i kind of really need the name,

Instead of making an offer - simply ask if they're interested in selling the domain. If not, move on to find a domain that is available and works for your needs.
