Who Does My Idean Belong To?

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
I work for a major retailer. My idea is a simply promotional idea that a) is helps to our customers and, b) keeps my company's brand in front of the customer even when they're not in the store. This is an item we would provide the customer for free, and the cost would be borne by the company itself. I KNOW it's a good idea, but I'm afraid to reveal it to corporate marketing because I'm afraid of some intellectual property hoodoo voodoo. How do I find out what my rights are?

I appreciate any insight I can get regarding this. Please let me know if this is even the right place for me to be posing the question.

Thanks!

I may take heat for this but THIS is exactly the problem we have in America. If you work for a company you give your all. If you hold back, you should quit.

Now, I'm not talking about ideas you may develop to do something on your own, but if a simple process can help your employer succeed, you owe it to them to share it.

If the idea is for your employer, it belongs to them. You are being paid to act and think on the company's behalf.

Don't spend another moment thinking about this one. Your reward, if the idea is any good, will be at the discretion of your employer.
