I Could Use Some Help

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
The deadline for the installation testing of the Knowledge NoteBook's latest version 2.99 has passed and I do not trust overseas testers... As a last resort, I'm requesting help from 3 to 5 kind people here to run the installation testing. Requirement is a Windows-based computer (XP or Vista or 7) and you do not have Knowledge NoteBook installed already. Total time/effort estimate is 10 to 15 minutes.

The software download URL:
https://www.knowledgenotebook.com/Download/KnowledgeNoteBook_v299.exe

Its installation instructions:
(1) Close all programs before installation.
(2) Click on the knowledgenotebook_v299.exe installer and then click on Install.
(3) When installation is complete, wait for about a minute or a little bit longer, the screen may appear to freeze but it does not, the Knowledge NoteBook software will launch with IE browser automatically. But Firefox is the best browser for the software software.

Thanks in advance.

Note:
This request is a bit unusual, thanks MP for being supportive all along...

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    1) On favorite browser. Individuals need to learn the merit of becoming flexible, that is, if a program works best with one popular browser, invest 5 minutes to download and install that browser and rip benefits of using such a browser instead of being in insisting one browser the "best".

    2) On program download and security. Too much bs has been going on that, download from MS or Google is ok while from a startup isn't... everything seems to be in favor of big money... WRONG! And users/individuals need to learn to be able to make a sound judgment on this or other...

    3) "post as a project", how? Have never heard that MP supports this function. Thanks.

    Carrie,

As stated, the specific task is to run the installation testing but not user review or the like and it takes about 10 to 15 minutes. For another, the MP readership isn't my target market but running installation would just be fine.

Better, if capturing useful bits of info on regular basis without opening up a large program like Word and to be able to find them quickly later on is Important to You or anyone else for that matter then it would worth every minute of your time to try out Knowledge NoteBook, and I'm talking about this latest version,
    https://www.knowledgenotebook.com/Download/KnowledgeNoteBook_v299.exe

And frankly older versions were inadequate on User Experience part but not this one.

    Thanks for your time.

The #1 problem you're going to encounter is "why should we trust that installing your software isn't going to mess up my machine?" You're asking for a favor that has a potential high risk for us and the software isn't likely to be immediately needed by us.

Instead, what you want is a bunch of people with different setups (different OS, etc.) to install it on test machines. That's the first step - installation. Next, you need to ensure it's functional and doesn't cause unexpected interactions with their hard/software. Testing is more than simply installing and looking. If you're trying to ensure a simple, quality installation (which is vital - this is the first impression of your software), take the time to do more than have a bunch of random people test it. Do it strategically.

    On trust.

    Assurance:

    Industry Review
Venturebeat ran a story titled "A laptop app for students who can’t stop typing" about us (Feb 19, 2010).
    Industry Recognition
Nominated as technology rising star of NCTC and received letter of congratulation from Congressman Bob Goodlatte ( March 31st, 2010).

With regard to installation testing, here I specifically asked for just installation testing, functionally it hasn't been tested many many times by many many users already... meantime bear in mind no software is perfect... no such if anyone has been using software long enough... as I'm typing I'm making improvement again... it will always continue...

    Thanks for your time.

    Corrections:

    1) Download URL, instead of the old
    https://www.knowledgenotebook.com/Download/KnowledgeNoteBook_v299.exe
The newer and better one is,
    https://www.knowledgenotebook.com/Download/KnowledgeNoteBook_v2999.exe

    2) Typo correction:
"functionally it hasn't been tested many many times by many many users already..."
    It should have been
"functionally it has been tested many many times by many many users already..."

P.S. It would be nice to be able to edit a post.

    MP:
Please feel free to close it.

    1)
People tend to talk a bit too much about elusive "forest" (strategy) instead of spending a bit of time to help "planting some real tree" (get things done). But that's all right...

    2)
Since a British (or at least coming across that way) sucker posted a counter-productive follow-up to one of my threads I spend less time on this forum. Its value diminishes for me.

    3)
I tried to answer the survey (as a way to pay back to MP...) but it's too long... I aborted... sorry
