Customer Appreciation Day

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I run a SMALL bakery outlet and we need to have a customer appreciation day. I have all the usual ideas like a barbeque, face painting for the kids, balloons, free products etc... I really would like some unique ideas so that they remember and want to bring more people in to shop. Any ideas would be great.

"need" to have a customer appreciation day? Do you really need it? Or what you need is more business? I ask because if we can classify what you really need, then we can figure out the best way to reach that goal. A customer appreciation day may or may not be the best way to reach the goal of getting new business.

You obviously appreciate customers every day, not just once a year. So, why don't you create a frequent-buyer program and/or a refer-a-friend program? Both will help develop a longer-term customer base.

We have a frequent shopper discount card and people love it so we are already doing that. But thank you for the idea.

I am with Jay. Maybe it is my cynical side, but I don't like customer appreciation days. I can tell you aren't doing it because you appreciate me, but because you want business. And don't you appreciate me all year?

Other events may be better, if you need an event. Or other ways to thank customers that help you out, such as what Jay suggested.

Since you are a bakery, why not conduct monthly free seminars on easy to do goodies like cupcakes or cookies. Or have basic cupcake decorating lessons for kids.

I personally do not run the business just the outlet. We are a bread distributor and what we do is called product recovery, which means that the bread is brought into stores and before they go out of code they are brought back to me to sell at a discounted price which gives me approximately 3 to 4 days to sell it. So as you can see this is not a "bakery" per say. All I am looking for is help in different ideas to say thank you to our customers for shopping, at our store, and making a fun day of it for all involved.

How about some type of contest? Is it only bread or is it other items like pies, etc? Maybe have a pie-eating contest or something fun like that?
