How To Speak Out?

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
Dear all,
Nice to raise question here and thanks to your responses. Here I have another problem. You know I work at a furniture factory and we mainly sell our products to foreigners. So it is frequent our oversees customers will come to our factory and I need communicate with them. I just graduate from the college and knew little about Furniture. But I think I have the ability to be a translator. But I don't have the chance to show. Because there is a sales manager in China office who is mainly deal with the business with the customer. And her English is very fruent and she knew much about career. She will come together with the customer every time.So there is no chance for me to speak out, Every time I Jjust say Hello Nice to meet you. Bye . some like the greeting language. And my boss thought that my English is really poor. I feel very distressed.
So what should I do to speak out? Would you have some good ideas to help me.

I suggest you to request your Boss to allow you to handle next customer. This may be tricky but not impossible.Ask your boss also to be present next time to guide & help if reqd.

But I guess I cann't spea directly to my boss that I can handle it by myself. It's impolite and if I do not have this ability, it will be very terrible.

Don't you have reviews? Speak to your boss about your interest in this. Ask what skills you would need to acquire to do this. Make it an open discussion vs a jump into the fire discussion. Tell them you want to be of value to your company and thought this skill you have is not being tapped yet, and you thought this would be a way to tap this value.

Phil's post made me think -- look for ways to expand your skill. Think of volunteer work. My daughter is volunteering at the library helping a woman (they match you up one to one) learn to read english. When you add to your confidence level speaking out will be easier.

Interrupt your boss when with the customer and ask if you can get them coffee or a bottle of water.
