I suggest you pick up a copy of the book, The Potato Chip Difference. The subtitle is, How to apply leading edge marketing strategies to landing the job you want.

You can get the book at that website or through most booksellers in the US, Amazon.com, etc.

Volunteer with non-profits to build your marketing experience. Ideally, learn social media marketing skills which are sought after.

Instead of waiting for someone to advertise a position that's of interest, look at companies that you'd like to work for/with. Then, treat them as a research project. Find out what they're doing, what's working, what's not. Do informational interviews. Once you understand their "big picture", create a marketing strategy document for them (for free). Present it to them in a meeting to showcase your self-starter attitude.

success in your current sales job will help you make money now and will be excellent experience for you if and when you transfer to marketing.

If I were in your shoes, I would bust my butt in the current position, and I would read at least one sales book per week.

By the way, I have worked in both sales and marketing, and I would say that marketing is more fun, but sales pays better.

If you can provide more information about the type of sales job you currently have and the type of marketing job you are looking for, we can offer more detailed advice. Good luck.
