Looking For New Laptop, Need Recommendations

Posted by sarah on 25 Points
I am in the market for a new laptop. I do a lot of copywriting from home, but have started working with graphics and will probably need to learn Adobe Suite Graphics soon.

Any recommendations on a good laptop, wireless internet that can handle graphics programs?

Thanks!

Most any mid to high level laptop will work. Some folks will say they prefer Apples over Windows based machines, but that pretty much comes down to personal preferences. Consumer Reports has rated laptop brands for reliability, and there wasn't a huge difference between any brand (including Apple) to make one choose one brand over another for quality reasons.

cnet.com is a good place to look at reviews, but certainly you want to go with an Apple product for graphics.

    Hi,
the only choice is apple if you intend to do anything of value in the graphic design field:

Few reasons than just 'they look a lot nicer'
    1) Mac screens are 72ppi, the internet is 72ppi, printing is based on the same units. They all just 'fit together like a glove' when it comes to sizing, adjusting spacing etc. What is on your monitor is an accurate reflection.

    2) OS and the Hardware is built by the same company. Translation: it simply works. Microsoft makes the OS and every tom/dick and harry builds a computer that tries to play along nicely with the 3rd party OS. DLL problems, hassles, printers not working, conflicts, crashes and so on.

    3) I use alot of files from everyone under the sun: The mac doesn't have virus's like a PC. PC's have thousands upon thousands, upon thousands. In 20 years I've never had a virus issue on a mac and I open up everything imaginable.

    4) Colour control is system wide: PC's colour control (and I use that term loosely) is plugin here, plugin there depending on what your using. On a mac, you get the most dependable representation of colour across all the various software

    5) You love something about windows? You can install windows on a mac if you really want to and use both operating systems... heck you can even get viruses on the PC installation just like on a 'real' PC. Great eh? Although it only affects your PC side. Not the mac side.

The cost argument: Well PC's are cheaper no doubt. And they should be considering what you get. You want to play with the big boys, get a Mac.

    :)

Thanks everyone on your suggestions, I browsed cnet and have it down to 5 choices, but the MAC response gave me a LOT to consider.
