    Hello,

In many of the markets I have lived and worked in, insurance was still a very "personal" sell. It was largely by referral, and informal networks. In addition to the methods mentioned above, a low financial cost (there is some time burden) method is to introduce yourself to other B2C service sales people / organizations.

A few to consider who have business lines that are complimentary to your own, and allow for logical cross-pollination are:

Real Estate Agents: in particular those specializing in Re-locations, or first time home-buyers.

HR/Recruitment agencies: changes in employment often mean changes in location, insurance, etc. Temporary plans as stop gap measures for people between jobs could result in longer term business.

Independent Auto Dealers: Boxed lunches once a month for sales people can make you extremely memorable. And who better to have handing out cards for auto insurance, than the people selling the cars (okay, okay, the people buying them...but that's part of the plan!).

This is by no means exhaustive, but it should help illustrate some ideas and get you started on building a mutual benefit network that will help boost your visibility, credibility, and revenue through personal referrals.

I hope this is of some value, and that you enjoy the process of starting your new business!

    Kind regards,

    Ryan

Start by focusing on what you can do that others can't. Because of your background, do you know more about single moms' needs or gun clubs' needs than the average insurance salesperson? By serving a niche well, you'll be able to position yourself as a specialist instead of "another person who can sell you insurance".

Thanks for the great advice. I wish I could offer coupons etc but the price is determined by risk factors and it's not like I can offer a discount. I enjoyed the great ideas.

    Thanks again!
