Promoting Innovative Elearning Tools

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi,

I am a new memeber to this group. I invite suggestions from Marketing Gurus on promoting online English Language Assesment Tools. Currently we target Indian geography. The end user market could be students from Universities, Professional Colleges, Training Institutions and good corporate companies. Please help me reach this market quite innovatively.

Thanks
Priya

It's a very difficult sale, particularly if you're selling to end-users. I have direct experience with this through a client ( www.comfit.com ).

The reason, I believe, is that the demand just isn't there. Individuals who lack proficiency are not usually interested in spending their own money to learn how deficient they are or to remedy their situation. And the corporations who employ them don't feel like it should be their job to educate their workers on something as fundamental as language skills -- especially when budgets are already being slashed and people fear for losing their own jobs.

So that leaves you in a very tough spot. You're trying to sell something that your target audience doesn't really want. Clever marketing can't solve that problem -- at least not for long, or in a way that will generate sustainable, profitable sales.

Our solution, like yours: Sell the service to schools. They have very limited budgets, but at least they understand and accept that the need is there. How? One-on-one presentations to the administrators ... very long sales cycles, lots of time required, not cheap or easy ... but probably your best shot.

Can you offer the first few sessions for free to help people see what they're missing (and how wonderful your tools are)?

    Dear mgoodman,

Thanks for your response.. your opinion about the product & target market is very true, however we need some solution over it. I agree that schools have limited budgets but still they need is something new and something which benefit their students. So i am seeking some advice on what strategy will help me getting universities or corporate which may find these kind of products useful, rather important. And how to find right person without having large chain of decision making process. I would appreciate if you could give me some solution on it.
    Thanks.

    Jay Hamilton-Roth,

Thanks for response, we are doing this as our promotional strategy. We give some free licenses to show the usability of product. Still is there anything else you can suggest me?
    Thanks.

I would appreciate if somebody guide me on how strategically we can create need of e Learning or assessment tools.

Just to be clear, you cannot create a need. Customers have needs and you can (perhaps) satisfy those needs.

The marketing plan for your particular situation will require a focused project by an experienced consultant. It's not something we can do in a few short messages with incomplete market understanding.

Furthermore, it's quite likely that your product will require a more intensive sales process, and not as much marketing or lead generation. It could be the nature of the product and the market. It's not something you (or we) can arbitrarily change ... any more than we could make water flow uphill or turn lead into gold.
