International Rider Seeking Sponsorship- How&who?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I have recently taken on the challenge of securing sponsorship for my friend who is an International Eventer aiming for 2012 glory. The eventing world is not only great fun as a spectator but with the participants being predominantly AB demographic can provide a company with exposure to an influential audience. As a Dentist this isn't my area of expertise and I would be very grateful for advice on the best way to approach a company for sponsorship.
I have made a ppt sponsorship proposal which briefly outlines who the rider is, their achievements, aims and then what we would be able to offer in return for their money. Is there anything else that I should produce or mention?

Thanks

Clare

    Dear Clare,

Use your PowerPoint presentation to make a simple YouTube-style video. Then, post the video, along with all your information as to why your endeavor is worthy of funding, here: https://www.kickstarter.com/

    And good luck to you.

The clear message needs to be why the prospective sponsor would want to participate. What's in it for them? What's the payoff for a sponsor?

You DO need to cover the rider's credentials, but the clear focus and take-away from your presentation needs to be what the sponsor will get out of this. And the more specific to each sponsor you can make it, the more effective it will be.

Don't make a one-size-fits-all presentation. Tailor it to each prospective sponsor, which means that you need to understand their needs, their previous sponsorships, their customer base. Also, since they will be sponsoring this individual, they'll need to know more about them than just their professional accomplishments - their involvement in their community (are they an upstanding cititzen?) both in-person and online (do they have a large social media fanbase)?
