Vanity Printing For A Novel

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I know that there are a lot of printing options for self-publishing with a variety of services that can be included, what I am looking for is a quality printer for a very short-run novel (under a dozen to start). I would like a hardbound one-color book with full-color dust jacket, approximately 6" x 9". The book comes in at just under 100 pages.

I do not need marketing services or ISBN numbers for now, just the printing.

Can anyone make a recommendation or two?

    Dear mocando,

    Try these:

    https://www.blurb.com AND https://www.lulu.com

Blurb.com also offers a PDF to print option.

    I hope this helps.

You might want to go through Blurb, lulu or another similar service. Sounds like you want print-on-demand?

There are several services out there that offer a variety of options. Be sure the one you choose is vigilant about color and layout.

POD is clearly your best bet, assuming you don't mind the look-and-feel of POD books. Some folks are very particular and only want ink-on-paper, in which case your costs will be astronomical (per book).

I have used a number of traditional offset printers (mostly in Michigan), and they're quite good. But the cost for just 100 books would probably be $30+ per book ... 10x the price (per book) as if you printed 1,000 copies.

You might as well print 1,000 books and throw away 900 of them before you have to pay to ship and store them.

It depends on how discerning you are. Some folks can tell the difference immediately. Others are totally unaware. Why don't you get samples of each and see whether you think the difference in quality is worth the difference in price?

It doesn't matter whether it's one color, two colors or four colors. That's totally irrelevant to this discussion.
