Need Ideas For A Consumer Behavior Dissertation!

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi. I'm looking for a good topic to write about for my dissertation of 10000 words.

I was considering talking about how social media is affecting consumer preferences for brands.

e.g. the Facebook like button

I would really, really appreciate any suggestions for narrowing this down.

Think about this for a moment: the whole world and his dog are currently writing their thesis on social media.

Know what the reviewers of these reports think whenever
they see the words 'social media' emblazoned across the
front cover of yet another report? "Oh no! Not another one!"

So, consider writing about variations of:

    1. Customer service: its lack of application in today's online world.

    2. Two kinds of marketing: how ineffective messages kill sales.

    3. Truth in advertising: how many lawyers does it take to create a marketing message.

    4. Lights, camera, inaction: why TV advertising no longer works as it once did.

    5. Now with bigger print for easier reading: why fewer companies are placing and using Yellow Pages™ advertising.

    6. Lumpy mail: Why 3D mail gets attention and how to take advantage of "A" pile status in direct mail.

Your task here is to SELL YOUR IDEAS. To do this your thesis must STAND OUT. If your report looks and sounds just like everyone else's report, your report will sink like a stone.
Trust me on this: in that last sentence is the MOST VALUABLE marketing lesson you will ever learn.

    I hope these ideas help.

You will want to consider not only what interests you and what can be researched, but also what might be useful after you finish the dissertation and start looking for work.

So what are the issues marketers are facing? What information would help them make better decisions? Can you focus on an industry or company that might be a target for you? (Example: The business impact of a Facebook "like" button for retail dry cleaners in suburban Cleveland, Ohio.")
