Mattress Store Inter. Makeover, Color And Displays

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I own a mattress store with a large open 5000 sq. ft show room. The walls are white, and the floor is a stained green concrete. Very clean, but very boring look. We sell from middle of the line to very high end mattress sets (499.00-6,000.00), with over 60 sets on display. We have been in busines for 7 years and grown every year. This is our third location we have moved into. Now we are trying to really make a large increase in sales by taken the busness to another level. I think the interior of the store would be the best investment, wall colors, floor covering, arrangement and display of the beds, etc. Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.

It's not that the appearance of the stores is unimportant, but I'm skeptical that an interior re-do can actually drive sales to a new level. I might spend that money on advertising or promotion of some kind ... or on in-store fixtures, sales aids, etc.

Does the sales staff in this store find that their closing ratio is worse than that in the other stores? Would they spend THEIR money redecorating the store?

I would think that once a prospective customer is in the store asking about mattresses, the decor is a lot less important than the service/sales attention. (But then I haven't seen how bad it is ... or shopped for a mattress for years.)
