Magazine Advertising Costs

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
If I have a magazine that has 600 readers, then how much should I sell a full advertising page for? I know I can't sell it for much, but I am trying to get a round-about price so that I will know how to price my advertising fairly.

    Consider four levels:

    -Business-card
    -1/4 page
    -1/2 page
    -full page

How often do you publish? Who is the audience: CIOs or scrapbook fans?

Who is the target audience? What are their alternatives? What would they be willing to pay to reach your readers?

There is no stock answer to this question. It depends on the specifics of your situation.

    Dear partyorpaper,

I'm going to take a contrary position and ask if your readers actually care about ads? With the circulation you have, and if your readers are paying for your magazine, why not give them the option to buy additional premium content, perhaps as an online perk

The revenue you'll pull in from this option might out weigh any ad revenue (which is revenue you need to bring in month after month, meaning you've got to carry on selling the space), and, it'll keep your pages free for content your readers WANT to see.

    Just a thought.

Good advertising is advertising your customers want to see. Otherwise it's just marketing babble.
