Driving Sales For A Online Lingerie Store

I started a lingerie store online called (Playful Desire) we are looking to drive our sales up in 2011. I’m stumped on which way I should go or where I should start buy driving our sales up. I’m in NC so putting flyers on cars is useless here.

    I'd start by identifying/defining my primary target audience -- as specifically and narrowly as possible. Who is buying from you now? What makes them tick? Then I'd identify the reasons they've decided to be customers. What unique benefit do you provide that they cannot get from other lingerie stores? Why YOU and not somewhere else?

    Once you have the beginnings of a clear positioning and a specific target audience, I'd then calculate the lifetime value of a new customer. How much do they spend per purchase? What is the loyalty/repeat purchase rate? Average margin? That will tell you what you can and should be willing to spend to acquire new customers.

    Armed with this information, you can put together a marketing plan that will make sense for you. Saying you are "looking to drive sales up," is not specific enough as a goal. By how much? Are you prepared to invest enough to achieve that objective, or are you just wishing for growth?

    Approach this in a structured way, and you'll see that it all fits together when you do.

    If your business is totally online, then putting flyers around town won't useful (unless there are no similar stores in your area). Michael's asked all the key questions. The bottom line is: Why should someone buy from you (instead of the huge number of competitors online)? The more clearly you can articulate this answer, the better you can target the people with your unique offer.

    "I’m in NC so putting flyers on cars is useless here" I am sure there are plenty of womens gyms in NC.

    But, before you get to that stage, do the research as mentioned above. Maybe males are your top customers, purchasing for their GF or wifes.

    You need to find out who is purchasing, why from you, what are they buying, for what purpose, and when.

    Then you can go about getting the word out.

    Hi there, just starting up a small online lingerie business.
    I would like to know if it is worth investing in thousands of pounds to secure Market intelligence reports, and market resaerch costs?

    Does anyone one know what is an appropriate website to check out for helping myself?

    I have trawled through quite a few and to no avail.
