Marketing To Developers

What are some of the best tactics for marketing to independent developers. We're marketing an API but are not sure the best way to reach this audience. Thanks

    Like any other marketing, to make sure your message is seen by your target audience, post it where they hang out.

    Which newsletters are read by your ID ?
    Which websites do your ID check out ?
    Is there a particular social media platform your ID are on ?
    - other than FaceBook
    Any partnership possible with the underlying OS ?
    - in communication
    Could you create a support forum, spanning other API on the same platform and hence create followers, to who you could market ??

    Just some thoughts

    What specifically can your API do that others' can't?
    Why should developers trust your solution?
    What limitations do you have (OS, development environment, language, etc.)?
    How does your solution differ from the "best-in-class" solution that developers are already using?
