If I was going up against a rival business owner then in what ways would you suggest that I could "get to understand and keep ahead of the competition"????

    Do a SWOT analysis of you and the competitor. Strengths, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat. Secret shop them. Totally get into their head, what they do well and where there is a void.

    Talk to their customers. Ask them what they like about the (competitive) business and what they don't like. Ask what keeps them coming back.
