Marketing A New "old School" Product

Posted by ken on 250 Points
I have created a new product line of automotive accessories that finally gives one an opportunity to represent "old school" on their vehicles. The local consumers here in Houston love the product but have not purchase my novelty license plate due to state requirement of two license plates. I have an e-commerce website established but no sale generated from it. I am a one man operation and have a very small advertisement budget therefore I have not reached out to other major cities. The product is the first of its kind to the automotive aftermarket industry and is unique and very appealing. What would be your suggestion for getting more public awareness for my product?

Ken, the best way to get more "public awareness" is to pick a small target audience and advertise to them with focused and carefully targeted advertising. Of course, that costs money, so you will want to keep the target small enough so you can do a good job.

The goal should be to sell 100% of the people you contact, so if you can only afford to reach a dozen people, start with that. Pick the 12 people most likely to buy your product. Of course they won't be in Texas for the reason you cite. So where will they be? How will you identify the targets? If there are only 12, maybe you can get their names and addresses and use direct mail. (12 mailers @ $2.50 each will cost you just $30.)

Once you're successful with the first 12, you can try going for 24, then 48, and eventually a few thousand -- all based on what you learn about how to do this with the first 12.

Facebook marketing strategy would be great. I would start with viral marketing.
