Marketing Startegy To Promote New Website

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
I am the owner of a very successful company and because of this success, and after listening to my customers, I have diversified into the technology market.

To signify the change into a new area, I have got an agency designing a new website which will be ready for launch in January. This new website will be linked to the existing site which will still be active.

The problem is I need a marketing strategy on how I can promote the new website to a wider audience. As the site is about Technology industry news, I will be targeting people who want to know what is happening in the local area (which a lot of bigger companies seem to avoid). I have though of using our social networking site Facebook which has over 8,000 fans and hope that they share this, but am not sure this is the way to go. I understand that link building will be the key, but not sure how to go about this.

We do not have a big budget, so any help would be greatfully received. Thank you.

The first step is to set concrete goals, develop a marketing plan and establish a budget that can accomplish the goals. If your budget isn't big enough to accomplish your goals, you have to do one of two things: (1) find a way to increase the budget; or (2) adjust your goals to be realistic within the limits of your budget. There's no free lunch, as the old saying goes.

It sounds like you are entering a new market, so using your current customer base as evangelists probably won't work very well. What you're doing is almost like starting a new business.

It sounds like you need professional help, not just a few casual suggestions. You might consider hiring an expert. You can post a project on the "Hire an Expert" section of this website. Just click on the link in the column at the right. And if you can't afford to hire an expert, then you probably don't have sufficient budget to launch the business either. Maybe save your money for a while so you can do the launch properly.

Since your existing customers have encouraged you to diversify, why not start by engaging them? If you have specific leads, contact them directly. Your new direction is news for your existing fan base, so it makes sense to start a new Facebook page for your new business and ask your "other" fans to also like this page. If you're focused on a local area, start talking to businesses that are in affected Chambers of Commerce and consider writing a (free) column in your local newspaper establishing your credentials as a local technology expert (for more exposure).
