Can I Sell The Rights To An Internet Marketing Plan?

I've just completed my Masters Degree in Internet Marketing. Throughout the 2 year program we had to select a single company to study and complete assignments for in each class (from Branding, SEO, Internet Marketing Strategy and Campaign Development, etc). The end result is a comprehensive Internet Marketing Plan for the company I selected, an Ad Agency.

They are aware of what I have been doing, and I have been in contact with the President of the agency. I sent him the table of contents, executive summary and a brief excerpt from the Internet Marketing Plan- and he said it looks interesting, but he'd have to see the whole plan to see if it'd be viable for them to implement.

My question is how should I proceed? Would I be best off selling it to him, or trying to negotiate something else? And how can I protect myself if I send him the whole plan?

    What do you want out of this? Why did you pick that agency for your project? If you've moved on and don't really care any more about the plan, just give it to him. The plan has no value for anyone else, and you have your degree.

    If it's a job you want, then you still might want to give him the plan as a kind of sample of the way you approach business/marketing. Of course, you can tell him that you'd really like a chance to be part of implementing the plan, etc.

    I think trying to sell him the plan would be tacky, since you did the project in order to get your degree -- not as a business venture.

    As for protecting yourself, what are you protecting against? Do you think the plan has value to someone else (who might pay for it)? You could always ask for a signed NDA, but that's going to be of little value unless you actually plan to enforce it in the event of violation. Would you suffer damages if he used the plan? Or is this just about your ego?

    Yeah, I'd have to agree with you both. I guess my hesitation with sending the whole plan is more that the plan would be relevant to other similar companies, or could be implemented as the marketing plan for a consultant- though I'm not sure I'd have the resources to execute the plan as well as the agency would.

    Hi Andrew,

    Stop being greedy and look at the fact that the agency gave you time to make their business study.

    Plan for some thing big.. Look out for a position with in the group. You know the company in and out, you have being study them from last two years. You have done a significant study and some plan for the betterment of the organization..

    Pitch yourself as you can really implement the marketing strategy and make it a success for the agency.. Make the president that you are fit for this position.

    There is lot to learn. Look for Hen who given golden eggs and do not kill the hen to get all the eggs at one go.
