Marketing A Financial Advisor

Posted by Raymond on 125 Points
Hello,

I have a potential client who came to see me to build his website. He his a semi-retired financial advisor who wants to get back in the field selling his services and a few how-to DVDs on how to understand markets and get top returns on investments.

He has a pretty solid background as VP for various well known and trusted financial institution and over 30 years of experience.

He's been semi-retired for 10 years now, managing just a few portfolios for extra income and so doesn't have a load of clients he can brag about.

Here's what I'm thinking of focusing on and would love to hear the real experts' feedback on this:
• I feel we should first present him has an trusted financial expert with senior level positions under his belt
• He has a couple of video testimonies of current satisfied, long-term clients we could use as well as big clients from previous jobs
Since he needs to start walking again before he runs, I feel it might be a good idea to hold off on the DVDs for a while. My fear is that it might come out as a charlatan looking for a quick easy buck or worse, planning to run away with yours.

Any insight will be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Raymond

I don't think the fact he's been semi retired is relevant, it does not hold him back nor does it need mentioning. The fact is, he is still active in the field no matter the volume, so he is up to speed on the market as it is today. To remain active at all, he must keep up with his CEU's. Speaking from his years of experience, he would not come out as charlatan at all. Even a person he was more active in this field created a DVD, he'd still be a newby in this media. is your concern that he hasn't had a website before? Cause to the the world, no one knows if the website is day one or been live years. I think someone coming across saying "I have a gazillion clients to brag about and now I have a DVD" would sound like a charlatan. Your client has years of experience, active financial advisor-- dont hold hiim back. A lot of people with a lot less to offer are out there giving flim flam advice. Save us from them.

As an interim suggestion, consider making small videos for his website and to develop the skills/script necessary for making a great DVD (or online video) product.

His website should showcase his success in both up and down markets with small and large clients to show how his business sense has yielded profits for his clients over the years (instead of showing he's a get-rich-quick or a one-trick-wonder).
