Appropriate Title For Biz Development / Marketing

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Quick question on an appropriate title for someone working at a marketing firm. The focus of the position is sales and business development, especially for digital media. This person also works with development of services and pricing for the firm, as well as external promotion of the firm.

The title of VP of Business Development, or VP of Marketing might fit, but wondering if there is a better title that is more focused on the clients of the firm. This person works with clients to develop direction and strategy.

Looking for ideas on a title that would resonate well with clients of a marketing firm.

I think it really depends on how you want this individual to function within the organization. I think the title reflects what the person does and how others within your organization react with that person.

A VP of Marketing & Business Development is a clearly defined role

A VP of Client Enhancement or Client Relationships is a little more esoteric and fluid.

I believe that it is more important to have a title that works within your organization, and less important with how the title resonates with the clients. Clients will be impressed to work a VP of your company but they will not necessarily care what comes after the VP title.

    I hope this helps,

    Steve,

You just want to make sure that you don't interrupt the work flow and that there is a clear understanding by the employees and the person filling this role as to where this position fits within your organization.

Ultimately from the client side, I believe that it comes down to the individual. If you have a dynamic person that can build relationships with clients. Your clients really will not care what you call that person as long as he has the authority to help the meet their needs. And a VP title is a good way to indicate that authority.
