Need To Get A Sports Facil. To Let Us Train There!

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
URGENT ASSISTANCE REQUIRED FOR BOXING CLUB REQUIRING NEW FACILITIES ASAP SOMEWHERE UNTIL FUNDING CAN BE ACHIEVED!!!

I have on Tuesday with a local sports facility called the Snowdome, which has obviously a ski slope, multi-gym, pool, boxing gym, exercise classes, spinning etc., catering and wedding venue facilities plus live entertainment.

They've been approached before about allowing a boxing club to train there but always said no as they say it does not sit well with them and they are not into aggressive sport. Plus they have a ladies boxercise class which uses the gym with the training ring in it, and believe the ladies would not welcome seeing guys in the ring in a proper fight due to gym style. It's the same with martial arts they said no to that!

One of the partners is prepared to see us Tues afternoon though and was really nice on the phone. I asked about 1-off events, training there e.g. hire the facilities etc. has anybody got any thoughts on how we can show them the benefits of helping a club to run from their venue? The club now has no training facilities and badly need funding to get some, but this could be a good option - ANY THOUGHTS AT ALL GRATEFULLY RECEIVED ASAP!

many thanks
Kathy

What's in it for the facility to have you train there? What are the downsides? If what you do isn't a match for their clientele, then it makes sense for them to say "no" to you.

What other options do you have? Can you rent a tent & ring placed in someone's unused parking lot or empty lot? Is there a local "Y" that wouldn't mind the additional traffic? What about a local boys or scouting club, where in exchange for using their facilities/land you offer free classes for their members?

    Hi Jay

thanks for this very helpful, I think looking at the alternatives is the best option to be honest, having spoken to the leisure centre already and them not having gone there before as they are not in to aggressive sports/don't think it sits well with the centre - but at least they are open to talking to us.

Great idea about the scouts thing, will check that out for this location. Sorry but what is a 'Y' as from the UK - is it Youth Club?
