Facebook Page That Targets Two Different Audiences

Posted by lorenz on 125 Points
Hello and thank you for taking the time to read our question.

We have a magazine that targets parents but extracts its revenue from small business advertisers who seek to target these parents.

Now we want to start a Facebook page, but here's the challenge:

how could we work it so that it can generate a passionate following from both demographics? For the SMB advertisers we'd like to post helpful content on how to grow their business, for parents we'd like to post helpful tips, local deals and contests, etc.

We would rather avoid having to create two different FB pages for these demographics. What could be an elegant solution to reach out to both demographics on one page?

Thank you.

My first reaction is to ask you what you are doing with your magazine to deal with this problem?

Surely there is something that the businesses want in advertising to parents through your magazine - and there is something that your parents find useful in the adverts. This should provide you with a central focus where you can branch off ideas that may suit one or other yet still have a degree of continuity.

If the two communities aren't in conversation, then create separate FB pages for each of them (otherwise no one will be satisfied/interested/returning).

    Two points:

    1. First, why do you want to "start a Facebook page?" What's the objective? What advantage does it offer over just sending folks to your website?

    2. If there's really some good reason to use Facebook, Jay's advice is absolutely correct: You need two different pages. You have two different audiences with different needs. Trying to serve them both with a single page of copy is going to guarantee that you're not doing the best possible job for either one.

Thank you for your feedback. You are right, we need two different Facebook pages, but wanted to consult all of you if there was no way around it.
