Gemma Laming Reaches 100,000 Points

Posted by SteveByrneMarketing on 500 Points
Gemma (Moriarty) has reached this milestone (in just a few days short of one year) by being a very active participant answering some 1,559 questions with 1,317 being accepted. An unbelievably quick rise to join the Century Club. I have learned from, been amused by and occasionally even confused by her uniquely styled conversational posts, that so often connects with the questioner's needs and aspirations.

Congratulations Gemma, for all you contribute to our forum.

Firstly a thankyou to all of you for taking the time to post something.

Also a thankyou for moving this from the "our Forum" section. I would have felt uncomfortable posting there. As to reaching the ton it was a little nerve wracking on account of emails I receive from certain people. However one question sorted that one for me, so I popped a cork on a Cotes du Roussilon had a sip and promptly fell into bed.

I will say that I have learned a very great deal in the year that I have been posting here. Some of you will have seen subtle changes in my style. For another thing, a study I did on questions that had been closed by the authors, who are, after all the arbiters of true value. The results gave me the surprise of my life.

As Steve Byrne quotes the number of questions that I've had accepted, I will tell you that this works out as a percentage of 84,5%. That is to say, the highest of the regular contributors on this forum - and it's trending upwards. Such analyses take a little more observation.

Now I know that I don't always get things right - however it wasn't strong words from the moderator that changed pne part of that, but a quiet word with Drayton Bird. From that moment onwards my answer rate has steadily grown to the point where I overtook Mr Bloomer in August.

Because marketing is about communicating, and if you can't communicate or you do so in a way that's unprofessional you won't find your questions being accepted.

Following the study mentioned earler, the figures from those questions closed by the authors themselves are even more compelling. They were totally unexpected; I had expected to be somewhere in the middle. If you want the details, they'll be on my website in the next few days.

Remember this isn't me telling you - this is evidence provided from those who can tell us whose answer they value the most. I am not the professional marketer that you guys are, I do not have the cred, background or the academic qualifications. What I can do is communicate with ordinary honest and hard working people about the things they value. The guys I spent today with are the least academic on the planet, yet are highly skilled craftsmen. Such straightforward and sensible people are the kind who do not take mistakes lightly, yet they do not make a fuss should one occur. It is nice to be able to get things wrong and have a few laughs at the same time.
