Marketing A Small Service Business

I am starting a small business that caters to other small businesses needs in the information system age. What I will offer is database management, web page design and hosting, and internet marketing. My question is "How do I target the right type of small businesses and get my message across before they close their mind my services?"

    Why not offer your local newspaper to write a weekly small business IT article for them?

    That way you are seen instantly as an expert and the weekly appearance gives you a "here to stay" image.

    And don't ever forget the golden question when you fix someone's system for them and have a happy customer: "Do you know anyone else you think could use this same kind of service?"

    Follow up with "Thank you, now, can you think of anyone else?"... until you get as many referrals as you can possibly squeeze. Then get the client's permission to mention their name. It's very powerful.
