New Spellcheck Feature Added

Posted by Valerie Witt on 0 Points
Hi all. I'm announcing this here since the newsletter is on hiatus. Many of you have been asking for this. Yesterday (yep, on a Saturday) Allen and Aaron did the work to build it into our forum.

We now have spell check!!

Please press the little "ABC" button below the posting form whenever you want to use this feature. And let me know how it works.

Hope you like it!

Best,

Val

    Hi Val

I tried it tonight having spotted the new button. Congratulations to Allen and Aaron – it works well and the word count and edit tracker is particularly useful.

I hope that it is used frequently, as sometimes some of our over-enthusiastic, text-happy e.e.cummings, “i don’t use capitals in my poems”, contributors are a bit difficult to decipher, even if they are making an important point.

I look forward to seeing the day when it can cope with my contributions in Latin!

Meanwhile, it’s “well done” all round.

I dont think it is working with firefox. I tried it just now and it says my answer has no spelling mistakes and all the values are zero.

Oh man, you've added that feature just for me :-)
I though by crappy spelling had slipped quietly and un-noticed through the net!

What a great thing to have here! I just noticed this feature this morning, and I thought, "has that ALWAYS been there and I've missed it??"

It's working great with Opera (which FireFox already noted, I see). Thanks for the great addition! It really helps those (me) who are trying to look like we (I) actually know how to write properly.

    Heh heh.

Hi all. WMMA and rnorth reported a bug. It seems that when you spellcheck a message that includes an ellipsis ("..."), the spellchecker truncates the message at the point where the ellipsis was in your post.

This spellcheck feature is a third-party solution, so our CTO has contacted the developers about the problem. Not sure how easy it's going to be to fix. So in the meantime, please refrain from using the good ole dot-dot-dot, if you intend to spellcheck.

    Sorry for the inconvenience!

A BIG BIG fan of the ellipsis ...

Hi all. Good news! Aaron received this note this morning from the developers:

"We have found a fix for the bug. It occurred when people used an ellipsis "..." Many thanks for your help on this. You will be the first to receive the update - which we hope to have complied within 24 hours."

So hopefully we'll be all squared away by Monday. :)

Hi all. Aaron heard back that the new code is in place now. So feel free to use ellipses again! :)

You may all thank me later.
I believe I was the one who requested to have an option to correct the spelling mistakes that one makes after a long day at the office.
However, I just asked for a "Modify" button to be placed next to our posts so that I could correct any spotted mistakes. However the "ABC" spell check button takes my request one step further.
    Great job!

    PS Isn't technology wonderful?
