Organic Seo Initiative

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
I am currently developing an ORGANIC search engine optimization (SEO) initiative for a small niche B2B manufacturing company with both limited budget and personnel. Historically, they have never attempted SEO of any kind and are currently in the process of reorganizing/re-designing their website. Although I’m not an IT person (and don’t want to become one), I have a generally solid understanding of technology (especially online technologies) and believe that an effective organic SEO initiative needs to start with, and be monitored/maintained by the marketing department. I’ve read most of the SEO articles and attended the seminars available on the MarketingProfs site (a valuable resource).

But what I am looking for from the MarketingProfs forum members is “no fluff” “been there, done that” advice/feedback/tips on the following:

1. Given budget and personnel constraints, what elements of an organic SEO initiative give the most effective return-on-effort and should be tackled immediately? (The organic SEO “low-hanging-fruit.”)

2. What tools should I have in my SEO toolkit to monitor/document the progress of my ongoing organic SEO initiative?

3. What SEO resources out there have you found that were unusually helpful with past organic SEO projects?

I agree with you. Although such a project is an IT one, it should stay within the marketing department's jurisdiction.

Recently had to perform some research on the subject, and ended on this www.seochat.com. I think you will find many answers there, as i did myself.

    1. Find 2 links with some interesting tips. probably been there, as well, huh?

    2. Have a look at this discussion thread I also found: https://forums.seochat.com/showthread.php?p=152122

Sorry, if I can't help you more. Hope this helps anyway.

    Best Regards,

    Hi dmcmullin,

No fluff, been there done that advice:

#1) Get your name mentioned in highly trafficked circles like this forum. Proof: type the name of any of the top ranked experts into Google - you'll see what I mean. 'Nuff said.

All other optimization aside, this is the single most important thing you can do to get your site and "keywords" noticed (because it shows your site is popular and relevant) and highly ranked.

    2) Tools: Many out there but I also like www.webceo.com It is one of the best known and better performing. Check them out, free edition, judge for yourself.

    3) I also recommend www.searchenginewatch.com (the paid for Search Engine Update is worth it, $75 a year). Also www.searchenginewatch.com and www.searchenginelowdown.com

    4) I do want to add that I am also a big believer in non-organic pay-per-click (again, been there done that). Does it work for everybody? No. Will you get immediate impressions and click-throughs? Absolutely. The strategy and tactics you deploy will make the difference between success and failure and we can discuss this offline if you want, my contact info naturally resides behind my name above. (part of the high ranking)

    I hope that helps.

    dmcmullin,

    1. Low Hanging Fruit
    a. Start with your web logs. Understand your referrers and also what phrases people are already finding your site with.
    b. Start building a list of phrases your visitors use to associate with your product or service. Not the phrases your sales staff, marketing staff, execs use to describe your product and services

    2. Tools
I like WebPosition Gold. But there are others.

    3. Resources
Purchase the premium levels of MarketingProfs and review the case studies from MarketingSherpa.

    Hope that helps.
