so far great response from experts and they seem to agree to have a book shop tagged along your coffee shop.

But i am worried since you mentioned about another profit center. Having a bookstore(library) in my opinion will not be another profit center for your coffee shop and you wont get a good ROI, rather it works the other way round (remember You Have Got M@il).

so my advice is to have something that will generate additional revenue from that new section apart from your revenue from coffee-sales.

Rather you can have a hire-a-book, for people to read while they are having coffee and they can buy if they like it. (may i have gone too far-fetched, sorry!)

as regard to alternative of coffee or co-branding, since you have to take in additional space for having anything add-on to your major stuff, coffee, then you should think of something, like a Gift Shop, Curio Shop etc., something that will generate revenue from the additional space you are taking into your shop. (i am assuming you will charge your coffee at par with market price).

alternatively, you can have a snacks items, or specialty food item like a only salads, or only pastries etc.

i don't know where are you located and how Wi-Fi is perceived in your market, if possible then you can charge people to use your Wi-Fi in your shop while they hang out there having coffee.

Now, the WILDEST idea. a couple of months back i read about something similar to this in Newsweek. in some Scandinavian country, someone had had a coffee shop in his Laundry Service shop as those who were coming for laundry had nothing to do.

Well you can try it although for your case its the other-way round. Alternatively, you can also have Music store, of fashion stores.
