Research To Find Niche Industry For Icon Design

Posted by Anonymous on 90 Points
Hi PPL,

We have planned to start up a new website where people can find graphical icons for software, websites, advertising, etc with respect to different industry (Say for example, there can be a software for hotel management which will best fit in hotel industry and software professionals may require icons for easy interaction in the hotel management software or there can be a website for retail industry so web designers may require icons for easy interaction). We are targeting software professionals, web designers and developers. My graphic designer can design top quality icons but the problem here is finding out the niche industry (where demand exist with less supply) for icons. Basically we want to conceptualize and design icons for different industry say education, finance, real estate and construction, insurance etc etc. Like wise, we want to find out which is the niche industry for icons so that we can conceptualize and design it. Let me put my question very clearly I want to find out Niche industry for icon conceptualization and designing. Please assist me out in this regard. Suggest me some effective and possible ways to proceed with…

I thank you in advance for your impeccable suggestions.

Actually, I was looking for just such a service last night. I found www.photospin.com. If it helps I had a client who wanted me to create a flyer (for cheap) and the icons I wanted just weren't in house.

Maybe take a look at what they're doing. Maybe it's the the SOHO marketplace?

    Hi.

My doubt is: Is there really a market niche for what you're trying to do?

When someone is developing an app they willl probably seek designers, that are able to build things around customers needs.

So I really don't see the people you're targeting buying those items from you. What advantage would there be for them to buy from you? What have you got to offer them nobody else has? Not even their own designers?

Do you have any advantage in terms of technology? do your products address citizens with special accessibility needs, for instance? Is it customizable? or is there an advantage, for a company to have icons similar to other company's? In this case how would you deal with eventual Property Rights' issues?

From my point of view Michael is right the only "Industry"woyuld be SOHO, but again: unless you offer something nobody else does you will probably find you will have a hard time.

Sorry. I really don't see how you will be able to build a market niche around your idea, at least with the information you provided.

Anyway I am at your service here and in my e-mail box.

    regards

António i have to disagree with you. There are A LOT of companies that do this sort of thing.

    https://www.iconbase.com/
    https://www.iconfactory.com/
    https://www.yellowicon.com/
    https://www.iconbuffet.com/

etc etc just google stock icons

There are also sites like www.wincustomize.com and www.deviantart.com where people can get icons for free. This is one of my hobbies, i make desktop icons and user interfaces.

With the release of Windows Vista and there new Windows Presentation Foundation, company's like your will have a great advantage for software developers (small to medium size) because they wont want to spend a few thousand dollars to to hire a designer when they can spend $100 for some stock icons that fit there needs.
